Decode your BMW VIN including factory option list

Postby M20_fever » Sat Jan 28, 2012 12:49 am

For those of you wanting to see the information included on the original build sheet for your e30 (or any other BMW) follow the link below. BMW has been kind enough to open their ETK to its favorite friends here, so follow the directions below and enjoy! ;)

Link: http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/accessories/electronic-parts-catalogue/electronic-parts-catalogue.html

After following the link click on "Electronic parts catalog" in the lower right of the screen. (you will need to have pop-up enabled)

Identification: eu111111
Password: bmwetk1

Enter the last 7 digits of you VIN into the text box, and click the forward button. Next click on "options" in the grey header at the top of the screen.

A new window will open listing the option packages your car came with from the factory. You can also click the "+" above options labeled Vehicle Information to see the basic build info as well.

Here is an example of what you will get:

Here is a document that describes how to decode the rest of your VIN so you can get the whole story of the birth of you beloved e30:

enjoy!

Awesome!!! Totally going to do this right now.

Edit:So I figured a couple things out that You guys may be interested in. For drive, not surprisingly, Heck is German for rear (RWD). Also, if your wondering why Power is rated at 125, 125 Kilowats converts to 167.6279 hp.

So now the questions I have are (1) Does anybody know what 'type (LM)' means? And (2) what about 'steering (LL)'?

I like how they list both front seats, could you get only one sport seat? hehe.

That's some funny shit Austin hahaha.

And Ponycarman, I know ETA's aren't supposed to be fast, but according to your specsheet, yours has 0 power?? lol And I do like how your ABS has 'Dynamic Stability Control'

Haha yeah it's not fast but not too bad. Feels faster from the torque. And I'm pretty sure the abs doesn't work. I don't know if it is worth trying to fix it or just delete it. And right now there is nothing dynamic about my 26yr old suspension parts lulz. Cool to see some history of the car though.

Doesn't seem to work in Opera, but works in other browsers I have. Only 125hp? For some reason I thought these had 130something. Another site I checked my VIN on like a year ago said my car was built 4/87, hrm. What the heck's a HECK drive? My OBC has a remote?!? My wheels definitely are NOT chrome plated round spokes, they are silver painted BBS's. No mention of ABS anywhere on there, but my car has (non-working) ABS. AC was deleted since build too lol. Also what is LL steering? Oh, and that Cardinalrot leder interior is available if anyone wants to come pick it up. Not in the best shape though. My cruise control doesn't work... Possibly due to the fact that the stalk just flops around in the steering column, and interferes with the wiper controls. Every time I use my wipers I have to keep flicking the cruise control to make the wipers work. :-P
